East Texas children now have a new source for dental care. The new St. Paul Children's Foundation Dental Clinic was officially opened Sunday in Tyler.
The clinic is a combined effort between St. Paul's and the Northeast Texas Public Health District. Once it's up and running it will provide care for families that can't otherwise afford dental care.
Clinic director Dr. Kim Melendez said it's a step in the right direction.
"There are so many kids that have no way to get treated and we've even started excepting medicaid and there are several surrounding counties where there are no dentist that accept medicaid at all, and we have a few other grant programs to help the totally uninsured."
The project took about a year to complete and cost half a million dollars. The clinic will open for business Monday, where Dr. Melendez says they hope to treat about 40 kids.
