Sartain out as ETBU head football coach

MARSHALL, TEXAS (ETBU Press Release) - East Texas Baptist University has announced the resignation of Head Football Coach Mark Sartain today.

Sartain was the second football coach at ETBU since the sport was brought back after a fifty year absence.

"We appreciate what Mark brought to our program with his strong Christian leadership," stated Director of Athletics Kent Reeves.

During Coach Sartain's six seasons at ETBU, the football program  experienced several firsts, including the first night games at home.

However, Coach Sartain was never able to secure a winning season in his six year tenure at the college.

His overall record was 26-34 and the team record this season was 3-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

ETBU will begin their search for the new head coach immediately.

"We understand the urgency in securing a new head coach quickly," stated Reeves.  "However, we will take the time necessary to make sure we secure the man which God has chosen for this position."

East Texas Baptist University plays in the American Southwest Conference and is an NCAA Division III institution.
