Letting the air out of Christmas

Posted: Updated:

These days you can show your Christmas spirit with decorations that take only minutes to set up. We're talking about inflatable yard ornaments which are easily staked down and filled up with air.

But during the day when no one is around, the inflatable Santas and snow globes are unplugged and just lay there in a heap. There are pictures on the web from across the country of deflated decor.

Let's take a look at deflated Christmas here in Tyler.

Once upon a time it took a long time to get your house seasonally decorated. Now it can be nearly as instant as the surfing the Internet. With just a little electricity, Santa has come to town.

But during the day, Santa naps all over town. Who could blame him? He puts up with a lot of pressure all night long, but the image of a flat Santa is sort of disturbing, and a lot of East Texans agree.

"Well it looks like he jumped out of his skin," I said to Ed Flores.

"Yes, maybe he's scared of the kids this year," he said.

"They're not very festive," stated Caitlyn Cole.

"Do you think they should just leave them blown up?" I asked Mackenzi Price.

"Yes, that would probably be a good idea," she answered.

"The spirit of Christmas has left him," I said to Francis Kay.

"I think you're over-thinking this," he observed.

"Say you're three years old and you see this cool Santa, and all the air goes out of him; he deflates. What are you thinking?" I asked Caitlyn.

"I would probably cry. I be like, Santa, where's he going?" She replied.

So maybe it's a good idea to see who's watching before you let the air out of Santa and friends. It could avoid years of counseling. Or get someone with a leaf blower to help out during the day.
