Driver of dangling truck arrested on DUII charges

BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

A man was safely rescued from his dangling truck after it crashed on the overpass of Southwest Denny Road at Highway 217 on Saturday afternoon.

When officers arrived they found the pickup was hanging from the overpass over Highway 217, and the driver, 38-year-old Matthew Hamilton, was still inside.

ODOT crews shut down all lanes of Highway 217 as fire crews worked to secure the pickup to a fire truck to keep it from falling.

Firefighters used a fire truck equipped with a basket to get Hamilton out safely.

He was taken to the hospital with injuries that appeared to not be life-threatening.

Beaverton police said that Hamilton will be arrested for DUII, driving while suspended for a previous DUII as well as a misdemeanor warrant, once he is released from the hospital.

It took fire crews hours to remove the truck from the overpass, using a crane.

Beaverton police reported that Hamilton's blood alcohol content at the hospital was .50.

Police said Hamilton had been watching the Civil War game and drinking at a friend's house in Beaverton before the crash.
