CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) -

While a Halloween prank may have earned two Grapeland men a night in jail, that may be the only punishment they receive after the district attorney decided to drop felony charges.

Houston County District Attorney Donna Kaspar said Quaderius Whitt, 18, and Kevin Wayne Campbell, 17,, did not injure the elderly woman who they struck inthe face with eggs. She said that meant she could not proceed with the injury to elderly charge, but is sending the case to the county attorney's office for possible misdemeanor charges.

According to the arrest report, an officer was dispatched to Main Street at 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. He reported that a 71-year-old woman had been struck in the face with eggs after opening her door to what she thought were trick-or-treaters. She was covered in eggs and she said it caused her pain "trying to get away from the eggs."

The woman was able to identify one of the suspects as a black man wearing a white skeleton mask. The officer said he had dealings earlier in the evening with someone with that mask and located him in the area.

The suspect said he did have the mask but did not mean to hurt anyone. The officer spoke to someone else, who said they lent the mask to someone else but had stood there waiting for him when he went to the woman's house and they fled the scene together.
