ETX county approves votes despite controversy

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

On Thursday, Smith County Commissioner's Court approved the canvassing of all applicable election returns for November 6, 2012.

At Commissioner's Court, Smith County released the official results of the General Election, including the controversial alcohol propositions.

Smith County Precinct 2 Proposition 1 passed 20,576 to 8,076 while Proposition 2 passed 20,024 to 10,541. In the City of Tyler, Proposition 1 passed 24,485 to 9,157.

Earlier this week, members from the opposition group, Stand Strong for Tyler, filed a petition with Smith county, which stated that several city and county officials verified 'fraudulent' signatures.

County Commissioner Precinct 4, JoAnn Hampton, is named in the petition.

"We really don't have a response right now because as you know, this is going before a judge and we don't want to make any comments on it until we know what these issues are," Hampton said.

When asked if Hampton had any concerns about the verification of signatures, Hampton said, "No, I don't. I think we followed all the proper procedures."
