Longview man survives after accident severs both legs

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

An amazing story of survival today after a horrendous auto accident yesterday near White Oak.

Dewayne Hightower of Gladewater was air-lifted to ETMC Tyler yesterday after having both legs amputated while he was standing between two trucks, and another crashed into them, pinning him in between.

Mister Hightower nearly bled to death but survived and remains in ETMC Tyler.

His wife suffered a broken arm, broken ribs and a punctured lung but is stable at a Longview hospital.

The driver who initiated the accident, William Hammock of Gilmer, suffered only minor injuries.
