745 pounds of pot seized during traffic stop on I-30

MT. PLEASANT ,TX - An East Texas Police Department seizes hundreds of pounds of marijuana during a routine traffic stop.

Just before 10:55 p.m. Monday, a Mount Pleasant Police Officer observed a 2007 Ford U-Hall Van traveling eastbound on Interstate 30.  Canine Officer Juan Hernandez observed defective equipment on the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at mile marker 165 on I-30.  During the course of his traffic investigation Officer Hernandez's canine partner VADAR, a canine narcotics detection dog, alerted on the vehicle indicating the detection of drugs.  A subsequent search of the vehicle occurred in which 745 pounds or 337 kilograms of marijuana was discovered bundled and hidden in the back of the U-Hall vehicle. 

Arrested at the scene were the driver Wilber Pressley 40 years of age from Spring Texas and a passenger Ralph Ross 37 Years of age from Detroit Michigan.  Both individuals were transported to the Titus County Sheriff's Office where they were booked into jail for Possession of Marijuana weighing between 50 pounds and 2,000 pounds.  Bail for both men was set at $75,000.  This offense is a second degree felony punishable between 2-20 years in state prison with up to a $10,000 fine. 

Chief Wayne Isbell stated "This is quite a large seizure of marijuana at one time.  Unfortunately though, these types of drug seizures and arrests are becoming more common."  "I am thankful to have a dedicated team of officers and staff working around the clock in order to make our community safer."

The estimated street value of the seized marijuana is around $525,000.
