Salvation Army begins 2012 Angel Tree season

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Friday was the first chance East Texans got to pick an angel for this holiday season.

There are plenty of families across East Texas who need help putting gifts under the tree for their children this Christmas.

Twenty-eight hundred area families are hoping to be blessed. Most of their requests are necessities like jackets and shoes, though organizers say the kids have asked for a toy or two.

"Every angel that is on the tree is a child or a senior citizen. Their needs are on the actual angel. Without the help of the community, they may not have any Christmas gifts," says Major Doris Lawrence with the Salvation Army.

You can pick up an angel at the Broadway Square Mall. All new and unwrapped gifts must be brought back to an angel tree location, or to the salvation army by December 14th.
