FRANKLIN COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
A suspected home invader is recovering from surgery in a Tyler hospital Thursday morning after he was shot by police on Wednesday.
Franklin County Sheriff Paul Fletcher says the home invasion happened in Wood County, near Winnsboro. Officers chased the suspect more than 20 miles to Mount Vernon, where the shooting occurred.
The homeowner says the gunman came in, started threatening him, shot at him with a handgun, then stole his truck and led officers on a chase.
Once he pulled into the wooden acres tool rental, he reportedly rammed a Franklin county deputy's patrol car.
A second deputy then hit the pickup to stop it. Once the suspect got out of the pickup, sheriff's officials say he showed a handgun.
That's when they say sheriff's deputies shot him several times.
Authorities are still not releasing the suspect's identity pending charges being filed. The suspect will be charged with one count of fleeing and six counts of attempted capital murder.
Sheriff Fletcher says Wood County will be filing separate charges.
The suspect is in very serious condition after the surgery at a Tyler hospital.
