MS Sports Hall of Fame announces 2013 class

The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2013.

The class includes former WLBT sports director Michael Rubenstein along with Bill Buckner, Jimmie Giles, Gerald Glass, Earnest Larry "Doc" Harrington and Langston Rogers.

Rubenstein was one of the founders of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and was its only executive director until his death in December.

According to the sports hall of fame Starkville native Bill Buckner played football at Starkville High School, East Mississippi Junior College, Delta State University and Mississippi State University. He has been the state director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for 25 years.

Jimmie Giles, of Greenville, was All-SWAC in football and baseball at Alcorn State University for two seasons before playing 188 NFL games and in four Pro Bowls. He was inducted into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor in 2011.

Greenwood native Gerald Glass led Delta State University to two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and then went on to Ole Miss where he was a two-time All-SEC player. He was a first-found draft choice for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now a coach, Glass led his high school alma mater Amanda Elzy to a state championship last season.

Earnest Larry "Doc" Harrington of Hattiesburg served as head athletic trainer for the University of Southern Mississippi for 30 years. He was also head tennis coach for 27 years and as a trainer in the Senior Bowl for 25 years.

Calhoun City native Langston Rogers is one of the nation's most decorated and award-winning sports information directors. He played baseball at Delta State University.
