Local anti-alcohol group speaks out hours before election
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
The local group against the East Texas alcohol propositions is speaking out about a temporary restraining order that was denied in a Smith County court on Monday.
If passed, it would have put a halt to the elections or to the counting of votes as it pertained to the two alcohol propositions.
The group, Stand Strong for Tyler, who has fought this for months said they found several fraudulent signatures on the alcohol petitions.
"Then we get a letter from the county judge's attorney saying, 'If you want more information, sue us'. That's the other side of the story, so here we are; we did sue them. Congratulations, we are going to do it again. All we've asked is, 'Where's the checks and balances?'" said Dr. Mike Daniels, pastor of Landmark Baptist Church and a member of Stand Strong for Tyler.
The lawyer for the two people who asked for the restraining order has said an election contest will be filed in court Wednesday if the propositions pass.
