Mobile home burns in northern Smith County

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

According to Smith County officials, a structure burned Friday afternoon at 15639 Shady Creek, north of Kilgore Highway, in northeastern Smith County.

The structure was a mobile home; fire officials say it appears that something went wrong with the home's water heater. The fire spread quickly to the roof.

No one was home when the fire crews arrived, and because Jackson Heights Fire Department is located close to the home, authorities say the fire was able to be brought under control before the entire home was destroyed. One room did receive damage.

Jackson Heights, Chapel Hill, Winona, and Arp Fire Departments responded to the fire.
