LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin man is the first of eight co-defendants to plead guilty to his part in a federal meth conspiracy case.

Don Michael Campbell, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to manufacture meth and one count of possession of listed chemicals.

Count One alleges Campbell and Harold David Neyland, 65, of Lufkin, utilized locations in and around Angelina County to cook meth. It also alleges they conspired with six others to purchase pseudeophedrine from various pharmacies from several different counties.

Count 41 alleges Campbell purchased pseudeophedrine from Walgreen's in Lufkin on Dec. 24, 2011.

The practice of purchasing pseudeophedrine with the intent of it being used to make meth is known in inside circles as "smurfing."

Campbell faces between five and 40 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
