Lufkin man gets 5 years in shooting

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin man has pleaded guilty to his part in a Lufkin shooting from 2010, accepting a five-year prison sentence.

Omar Trey Williams, 20, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault. District Judge Barry Bryan approved the plea bargain.

According to the affidavit, police received a call at 12:37 a.m. on Aug. 12, from a residence on 1713 North First Street that two people had been shot. When officers arrived they observed a brown Ford Explorer and a white Lincoln parked in the middle of the road. The Explorer immediately pulled away from the scene as officer conducted a stop on the Lincoln.

The affidavit states three adults, including Williams and Amos Flournoy, 17 and two juveniles were in the car. Officers handcuffed all five of them and observed the barrel of a Long Colt 45 sticking out from underneath the front passengers' seat. All five were taken to LPD for questioning, the affidavit states.

Officers interviewed the people in the Explorer. The three backseat passengers said Flournoy  was the one that shot the Colt 45 toward subjects standing in a yard on the 1700 block of North First Street.

The occupants of the Explorer told police they were driving behind the Lincoln when the shooting occurred. They then stopped in the street to speak with the occupants of the Lincoln and said they saw the revolver sitting in Flournoy's lap, the affidavit states.

In questioning, detectives say Williams told them Flournoy shot the guy, while Flournoy told detectives Williams did the shooting. The affidavit states Williams and Flournoy talked about covering up their involvement in the shooting while riding in the police car back to the station.

The affidavit states the occupants of the Lincoln came to Lufkin from Corrigan to get revenge on a group that jumped them the day before. Officers found several baseball bats and pipes in the Lincoln, the affidavit states.

The affidavit concludes that Flournoy shot the gun, but Williams knew full well that Flournoy would use it when Flournoy said, "I got something for them this time," while he was holding the gun, just before Williams drove the group to the address.

Robertson suffered a gunshot wound to the upper left arm. The bullet broke his humerus bone in half. Daniels suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. The bullet went through his left lung and partially collapsed it, the affidavit states.

Flournoy pleaded guilty to the crime in January and also accepted a five-year prison sentence.
