Gas prices expected to rise in Sandy's wake

(CNN) - Gas prices are likely to go up after Sandy makes landfall.

Many refineries in the northeast have already shut down temporarily. However, the real impact could come if damage or power outages takes some refineries offline for several days.

One expert predicts that scenario could push the national average from $3.54 to $4 per gallon.

Prices should go back down shortly, if that's the case.
