A babysitter is behind bars after she left a 16-month-old child home alone, in a large plastic tub with a baby bottle and a dirty diaper.
On October 22, 2012, the grandmother of the child noticed the babysitter, Sharesse Renee Joseph, 26, of Baton Rouge, walking down the street about 15 blocks from the house where she was supposed to be babysitting.
A police officer went to the apartment and found the baby inside and alone. The child was inside the large plastic tub with a blanket and a baby bottle. The report says the child was very upset, the baby bottle was empty and the child's diaper needed to be changed.
The child was dropped off at the babysitter's apartment that morning when the mother went to work. The grandmother states the babysitter's boyfriend was at the apartment at the time, even though he had been barred from the apartment complex due to his criminal activity.
Reports state a police officer went into the apartment and immediately smelled marijuana. While walking through the apartment, the officer saw an ashtray on the floor with "three small butts believed to be the remains of a blunt cigar containing suspected marijuana."
Joseph was placed under arrest on the charges of child desertion, aiding to remain on premises, and a second offense of possession of marijuana.
