Freedom Fighters: Clyde Hussey

Posted: Updated:

By Joan Hallmark

Clyde Hussey knows the real story because he was part of that very last bombing on April 15,1945.

The atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima August 7th and the one dropped on Nagasaki August 9th, had taken terrible tolls, but still the Japanese didn't give up..

As a radio operator on b-29 superfortress, Hussey had flown numerous bombing missions over Japan that summer of '45.

While most of the resistance on surrounding islands had been overcome, bombing missions over Tokyo were filled with danger.

Hussey's plane had only been hit on one bombing mission, but the emergency landing strip at Iwo Jima was all that saved him from becoming "shark bait" as he calls it.
