It was the morning of December 16,1944 and Bill Gignilliat was on guard duty in the little Belgium community of Bucholz Station.
Gignilliat has written about his experiences in his book "A Pow's Memories".
In 2009, 65 years after the Battle of the Bulge, Gignilliat published the details of the most dangerous time in his life.
The attack was such a surprise, the allied command didn't realize what
was happening for over a day...by then Gignilliat and others who had
survived the heavy attack, were surrounded and cut off from other American forces.
Gignilliat was captured by German soldiers in a cabin with only one way out.
