Ken Anderson joined the army in March of 1969 and in little more than a
year was sent to Vietnam as an infantry medic. His father had served as
a medic in World War Two.
But that fire fight was only the beginning. Doc Anderson as they called
him, was to be in the field constantly and under fire from a well
trained North Vietnamese army most of the time.
An overnight in a field hospital and Anderson was back in the field the next day.
As a medic, anderson carried his well equipped field medical bag, a 45
revolver, ammunition and an m16 rifle....all were put to use, but even
the rifle couldn't prevent anderson being wounded a second time.
It was after a firefight when wounded American soldiers had been evacuated, that Anderson turned his attention to a wounded enemy soldier.
