Mac Mcdowell arrived in Vietnam in 1968 following the tet offensive. He was to spend 13 months there as gunner and crew chief on a uh 34d helicopter.

Mcdowell found out on his very first mission the dangers he faced.

A short burst from mac's guns hit its mark.

At that point, it really soaked in that mcdowell was in a war.
