There was recognition for an East Texas hospital today for its services to organ donor families and transplant recipients. Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview received a commemorative plaque from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Through the benefits of their organ donor program, 99 corneas were transplanted to residents living in the East Texas area over the past year. Cornea transplant recipient, Cathy Shipp, was part of today's ceremony.
"I'm proud, I really am. I feel blessed to be a recipient, my surgery was successful , very hesitant to do this but now i see the importance of promoting" says Shipp.
Last year, there were 15 eye and cornea donations at Good Shepherd Medical Center.
