LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man has been charged in connection with a marijuana growing operation found after a Saturday house fire.

Fire broke out Saturday at a home on Deerfield Road West, north of Longview.

When firefighters went inside the unoccupied home, they found hundreds of marijuana plants fed by an elaborate watering system.

The property owner showed up around an hour after the blaze was doused, and expressed shock at hearing of the marijuana discovery.

41-year-old Benjamin Averitt, the property owner, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

His bond was set by judge George at $7500.00 and he was released.
