The awards give people the chance to find out about the businesses and recognize business owners who have been successful in their industries.

Seven awards were given out during Tuesday's luncheon at Green Acres Baptist Church Crosswalk Conference Center.

The awards honor area Hispanic business owners for their struggles and successes.

"Well, I mean it was just like wow, you finally won it, you know? I don't know how they come about deciding it but they end up deciding on it and this year we're blessed to get it," said award winner Luis Hernandez, a general contractor.

"Business is not easy, it's a hard thing to do and those that are good at what they do absolutely deserve to be acknowledged and have the light shine on them," said Hispanic Business Alliance Chairman Michael Lujan.

The HBA is a program of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce. They partner with other local organizations to facilitate and foster Hispanic business development in Smith County.
