(ABC) - An Arizona couple who thought they were simply visiting grandchildren got an early morning surprise.
It happened in Sonoita, Arizona, southeast of Tucson. The couple woke up to find a bear cub on a feeding frenzy in the kitchen.
Philip Volk thought he was seeing things when he saw a small furry cub dart across the house.
"Your first instinct is what are we going to do, I have a wild animal here and my grandkids are around the corner," said Volk.
But, the cub didn't want anything to do with the kids. He just wanted to grab a bite to eat, and he knew exactly where to look.
"He got into the chocolate cake, finished that off, then we noticed the trash can was turned over. So, he went through that, and then he made his way over into the pantry," said Volk.
The family called for help, and were able to get the bear out safely.
