Heavy rains over the last few weeks have drenched many East Texas counties, leaving them open to flooding.
In Mabank, heavy rains flooded roads and left many creeks swelled beyond their banks. The owner of Fairbrother House of Antiques was left cleaning up after waters from a nearby creek came pouring into her shop.
Before the rain stopped, more than three inches of water filled the business. Owner Gloria Fairbrother said her shop had come close to flooding before, but never like this.
"Around 4 o'clock I checked it and it looked o.k. At 5 o'clock, there was three inches of rain all through the shop, so it came in a hurry."
City officials estimate more than five inches of rain fell throughout Kaufman County over the weekend. City workers spent much of the morning dredging up the creek next to the antique shop hoping to stop future flooding.
