Deputies Discover Alligators In Car

Quite a surprise, Thursday, for members of the Smith County Sheriff's Department.
During a vehicle search of a car on I-20, deputies found two small American Alligators inside a cooler.
The driver and his passenger said they were returning to Dallas and were going to give the alligators to their children as pets. It is illegal to possess an American Alligator in the state of Texas.
The sheriff's department turned the alligators over to the game warden. They'll be inspected for health problems and then returned to their natural habitat along the Sabine River.
Not only did the men loose their pets, they also lost their car. While searching the vehicle, the Sheriff Department's K-9 alerted deputies to possible narcotics inside the car. It was taken to be searched for drugs.
