A lot of young East Texans had the thrill of a lifetime Thursday night - and they got to support a good cause at the same time.
Davis Cleveland, star of the Disney Channel's "Shake It Up," was in Tyler Thursday with his friend, Tyler resident Maci Drewry, to raise money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Maci met the star of her favorite sitcom the old-fashioned way - online.
"We met on Twitter originally and she just told me that she had a charity and stuff and we swapped phone numbers," Davis Cleveland explained.
Maci was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was three. Last year, she created a video showing what it's like to live with CF with the hopes of creating awareness and raising money for the disease - and, via Twitter, she asked Davis to watch.
Now, Maci's mom says they are true friends.
"I mean, aside from the CF, they're great friends, so it's so neat to see a friendship develop like that from a disease," said Christa Drewry.
Davis flew to Texas this weekend to help Maci raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - and their first stop was Tyler's Rusty Taco, where a line wrapped around the door.
The Barns sisters were first in line at 5 p.m., thanks to their mom.
"Actually, she talked us into it," said Katie Barns.
"She told us about it and we were like, can we go?" said Karis Barns.
"I begged her," added Anna Grace Barns.
It was an event Rusty Taco owner David Weaver said they couldn't pass up.
"I think it's great anytime that anybody that has achieved success in their life and they're willing to give back and share, and what better cause?" said Weaver.
A chance to meet two stars - and help a lot of families just like Maci's.
"It feels great and I'm so excited for everybody to support CF and donate money to the charity," Maci said.
"Without all the awareness and the money, we wouldn't have the advances we have today with CF, and I hope Maci can live a long life and go to college and with all the money being raised, I see hope in our future," said Christa Drewry.
Maci Drewry and Davis Cleveland will be at Fickle Baby in Tyler Friday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
And they will be walking in the Cystic Fibrosis walk at Bergfeld Park this Saturday. Registration for the walk starts at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
