LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man is behind bars facing a laundry list of charges after residents reported seeing a man with a gun tossing items from a vehicle.

On Wednesday morning, officers responded to a reported armed subject in the 2900 block of Signal Hill in Longview.

The caller told Longview Police dispatch that a man was throwing items from his truck into a ditch near an apartment complex parking lot.

Officials say the caller also reported seeing a gun in the pocket of the man's pants. Lastly, the caller stated the man was wiping down the truck.

When officers arrived on the scene, the man fled on foot into a wooded area.

The man, Bendrick Jerod Jones, 26, of Longview, was found shortly thereafter at the nearby Highland Village Apartments.

Witnesses say Jones ran into an apartment, uninvited, and stated that the police were looking for him.

Longview Police took Jones in to custody without further incident, and charged with felony theft, evading arrest and criminal trespass.

Jones is also held on four outstanding warrants.

The truck that witnesses reported seeing Jones tossing items from and wiping down, a Nissan Titan, was returned to the rightful owner along with several items officials say Jones tossed from the truck.

Jones is in the Gregg County Jail, held on bonds totaling $25,000.
