NEW BOSTON, TX (KSLA) -

Bowie County authorities arrested a New Boston woman Wednesday after discovering that six horses in her care were "extremely emaciated."

Terri Danielle Johnson, aka Terri Danielle Pool, 33, was charged with cruelty to livestock animals, a Class A misdemeanor, in connection with the case.

Deputies began their investigation back on September 5 after hearing about six horses in very poor condition on property located near Hwy. 82 about three miles east of DeKalb.

After spotting the horses, deputies got a warrant to seize the animals. They got the warrant and returned, only to find that two of the animals had fallen and could not get up.

One horse was euthanized and the other later died.

After learning who was responsible for the care of the animals, deputies arrested her.

The sheriff's office was awarded care of the remaining four horses, which eventually will be adopted out.
