It was a historic meeting in Gregg county today as the city councils of Tyler and Longview held a joint session. The mayors and respective council members of both cities met for the first time at Shallow Creek country club in Liberty city.
The focus of the meeting was to help bring a state veterans cemetery to East Texas to benefit the 84-thousand veterans in our area. Leaders of both communities say the move to work together is long overdue.
"Nows the time we've been waiting too long , the future of our state and region is dependant on us getting together as a community and doing things together and so its long overdue" said Tyler mayor Joey Seeber.
"I think both of us were so excited this morning and today seeing our councils come together and other elected officials and trying to strengthen the power base of the northeast Texas corridor and area , we're very excited" Longview mayor Murray Moore said.
The group also discussed possibly constructing an hourglass loop to be connected between the cities of Longview and Tyler.
