Sheriff: Rising food prices causing rise in neglect

Sheriff's deputies in Arizona are investigating a new case of animal abuse, after they seized several emaciated horses from a home west of Phoenix.

We feel we should warn you, the video is graphic.

The owner first received a warning in July, when deputies removed a horse that was in bad shape.

This week, the remaining seven horses looked even worse and were also confiscated.

The horses were at least 150 pounds under-weight.

Many had infected wounds, and one even had a halter on for so long that his skin was growing around it.

Deputies say rising hay prices are causing a rise in neglect, because keeping the horses can be so expensive.

They say the seven horses will recover with proper care.

The owner could face animal cruelty charges.
