LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - According to federal court documents filed Monday, a receptionist of First Federal Bank of Littlefield demanded that a suspect remove a mask from his face during a robbery on Friday.  As the suspect was leaving court records say, "He was grabbed by a male (later identified as the FFB President) who removed his hat and mask."

Billy Ray Wood, 18, of Littlefield is charged by the FBI with bank robbery.  He was arrested late Friday after being questioned by an FBI agent.

No one was injured and after-the-fact the FBI was able to determine that Wood did not have a weapon during the robbery.  Court records say he jumped over the counter, opened a drawer, and took "an unknown amount of United States currency."

At the moment he was confronted by the bank President, he dropped the money and ran away.

Court records indicate Wood's girlfriend tried to purchase a vehicle with a check drawn on First Federal Bank that has insufficient funds.  Wood did not want his girlfriend to get into trouble for a hot check and, "after much thought he decided to rob FFB."

After the robbery he changed clothes.  The criminal complaint does not say specifically if bank employees recognized him but it didn't take long for officials to track him down in Shallowater.

"Wood … stated that his girlfriend did not know or have anything to do with the robbery."

Prosecutors are asking for a delay before any decision is made to let Wood free from jail on bond.
