Victim in weekend shooting identified

A shooting near the U.T. Tyler campus over the weekend put one person in the hospital.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of University Boulevard and Patriot Avenue.

The victim, identified as 21-year-old, Tarrington Joiner of Tyler, and two witnesses told officers they were at the Outlaws Club on Highway 110 S. the night of the shooting, when Joiner got into an altercation with another black male inside the club, but then left.

Later, a tan Dodge Durango with large rims occupied by several black males pulled up next to Joiner's vehicle on Patriot at University and fired several rounds into Joiner's vehicle. One round struck Joiner in the chest.

Joiner's friend jumped into the driver's seat and drove him immediately to the hospital

Joiner remains in stable condition at a Tyler hospital.
