East Texas veterans looking to attend college will now have a center to turn to.
Friday morning marked the grand opening of the University of Texas at Tyler's Veterans Resource Center.
Administration hopes this will help returning vets find the answers they need when it comes to adjusting to college life.
Ona Tolliver is the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at UT Tyler. She has worked on this project for three years and is happy to announce it is finally open to returning and prospective students.
Tolliver said the resource center can help with paperwork and even finances.
"We also want to be a part of their transition, which means that we are here to help them become acclimated to the community they're a part of," Tolliver said.
She said the center is also available, "if they need support in the classroom, and also we're here to educate the community as far as how we can best serve and meet the needs of our veterans and their dependents".
Administration said about ten percent of their student body are made up of veterans and they hope to add to that number with this new resource center.
