GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Earlier this week, a man was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana.

On Wednesday, Trooper Brandon Smith, pulled a man driving a gray Honda over for following too close. The man was identified as 34-year-old Brian Mitchell, of Louisiana.

When he made contact, the trooper reported that Mitchell was showing signs of nervousness. The trooper than asked Mitchell to step out of the car.

The trooper started to ask Mitchell questions as he continued showing signs of nervousness. Mitchell dropped his money in the ditch, and officials recovered it.

The money had a receipt that was wrapped in the money, showing that Mitchell had been in Dallas earlier that day, directly contradicting the story told to officers.

Trooper Smith suspected criminal activity was taking place, and asked to search the car. Authorities say Mitchell refused the search.

Smith contacted DPS K9 to come to his location; the canine sensed that there was something in the trunk of the car.

A search was conducted and one brown box containing marijuana was found. Mitchell was arrested for possession of marijuana and taken to the Gregg County Jail.

Officers did not specify the exact amount of marijuana recovered in the stop, but indicated there was more than five lbs.
