LAKE TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) - Robbie Wade, a native of Ireland, passed Mark Saroni with less than half a mile to go to win the 5th annual Rose City Triathlon.
Wade, competing at his first RCT, won in a time just a shade over one-hour and two minutes.
"It hurts, trust me," said Wade. "But it is nice when you have the specators cheering for you and even the other competitors are too."
The event is a 650 meter swim, a 14 mile bike rida, ending with a three mile run.
Sarconi, who finished 2nd, was the winner in 2010 and 2011.
Wade, who now lives in San Antonio, says he hopes to be back later in the year when the Rose City will host an elite level half-marathon.
