An early morning accident involving an on-duty ambulance in Tyler, has left one person dead.
It happened around 4 a.m. Sunday, at the intersection of East Front Street and Mayhon. Reports show the ambulance was headed West on Front Street carrying a patient to East Texas Medical Center when it struck a van headed South on Mayhon. The van had apparently run a stop sign before it was struck.
The driver of the van, 21-year-old Rebekah Rivera, was killed in the accident. Her passenger and three others from the ambulance had to be treated for their injuries. All had been released from the hospital Sunday.
Authorities say the ambulance did have its emergency lights on at the time of the accident.
