BCSO Lt. Stanley Cowley is currently seeking an arrest warrant for the person who was in custody of the seized horses shown in the photos.
BOWIE COUNTY, TX (KSLA) -
Six horses have been seized by the Bowie County Sheriff's Office after being found in extremely poor condition late last week near DeKalb. Now, they're looking for the person responsible for their care.
One of those horses was in such poor condition, it had to be euthanized by a veterinarian, and another died due to it's emaciated condition.
The Bowie County Sheriff's Office received a report on September 5 that some horses were starving on property located on Highway 82. Investigators located six horses on that property on September 7 and got warrant to seize them after finding them in such poor condition.
According to the Bowie County Sheriff's Office, a person commits an offense if the person intentionally or knowingly fails to provide necessary food, water, or care for a livestock animal in the persons custody. This is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of not more than $4,000.00.
