CASS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas chemistry teacher was arrested for selling meth at a junior high school parking lot.

William Duncan, 43, of Linden is charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance.

Police say after several tips, they went undercover and bought meth from Duncan in the Linden-Kildare Junior High parking lot around 8:30 a.m. Monday. The school district has placed Duncan on administrative release for now.

"We've been conducting an undercover operation for about five months and buying narcotics and we had bought off of this person a few weeks back," said Linden Police Chief Alton McWaters. "We set-up another buy from him. He sold it to us at the school, at the junior high school where he teaches."

Police arrested Duncan Tuesday on his lunch break at school. During the arrest, McWaters says they discovered Duncan had meth in his truck on school property.

"I was real surprised because I've known him for a long," said McWaters. "I just never thought it."

McWaters says Duncan was also using meth for physical pain.

"I talked to him when I arrested him," said McWaters. "I sat here and talked to him for a long time and of course he's real upset about what he's done, but like I told him this is my job and I'm going to do my job."

Police say they don't believe Duncan was selling drugs to students. Dawana Dodson has six grandchildren, some are Duncan's students.

"It's devastating actually because the school has a lot to do with your children, more than you parents do nowadays," said Dodson. "And for a teacher... I just can't think of much worse. I'm outraged. It's awful. It's unforgivable."

Dodson says Duncan should be fired as a teacher. For now the school has placed him on administrative release.
