Victims identified in deadly Cass Co. motorcycle wreck

CASS COUNTY, TX (KSLA) -

Texas DPS has identified the victims in Wednesday's deadly wreck involving two motorcycles, a car and an oversized load on Highway 8 between Maud and Douglassville, Texas.

It happened around 2:40 Wednesday afternoon. Texas DPS Patrol Sgt. Joshua Mason says it appears that the car, driven by 23-year-old Regina Connor of Douglassville, was stopped on Hwy 8 at the Sulfur River Bridge to let an oversized load pass over the narrow bridge.

Two motorcycles were behind that car. Sgt. Mason says the driver of the first motorcycle,  56-year-old Jerry Barnes of Atlanta, TX saw the car stopping and slowed down to stop as well.  52-year-old Candi Frye Barnes, also of Atlanta, TX, was riding on the back of that motorcycle.

According to TX DPS, 48-year-old Robert Beauchamp of Linden was following behind on a second motorcycle and failed to stop, striking the motorcycle in front of it. Both motorcycles, which were believed to have been traveling together, hit the car.

Candi Barnes, the passenger knocked off of the first motorcycle, was also struck by the oversized load as it passed. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Jerry Barnes was taken in critical condition with trauma injuries to Good Shepherd in Longview. Both Robert Beauchamp and his passenger, Jacqueline Beauchamp were taken in stable condition with trauma injuries to St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>
