Mississippi State’s men’s track and field team had a historic day on Friday at the NCAA East Prelims. For the first time since 2008, two Bulldogs will run the men’s 800m in Oregon. The big story in the pros Wednesday is the NFL's new edict on the national anthem. Players on the field are required to stand and show respect when the Star Spangled Banner is played. Those that stay on the field and kneel would be fined. Players do have the option to stay in the locker room when the anthem is played.

After the Mississippi State bulldogs blew out Jackson State, they have received votes in the latest Associated Press poll to earn a number 40 ranking, one spot ahead of this week's opponent, Auburn.

Dogs coach Dan Mullen says his team must be better against the Tigers if they are to move up in the rankings.

"We have a lot of things that we do need to improve on from week one to week two" said Mullen. "And just a lot things as a full team we gotta get cleaned up before you get into conference play. You know what I mean, you jump into conference play week two you gotta be ready to go, with a big game early."

Mississippi State will try to improve to 2 and 0 when they host Auburn Saturday. Kickoff is set for 11 AM.
