About two months ago, a 1977 truck was stolen from the Poynor Fire Department; that's a small community about 20 miles southeast of Athens. Inside the truck there was more than 15-thousand dollars worth of equipment.
This week, on property West of the city of Rusk, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department found firearms they believe were stolen, along with marijuana, and the Poyner Fire Truck. The truck was stripped. Officers found the front fenders and hood on another vehicle at the location. They also found the water tank, truck bed, and firemen's bunker gear in the woods on the adjoining property.
Walter Walker and Patrick Franklin, both of Jacksonville, were charged with burglary of a building, and marijuana possession.
Cherokee County Sheriff's officers seized the fire truck and equipment, a blazer, firearms, and jewelry. Cherokee County officers may file additional charges and Henderson County Sheriff's department will file any charges related to the fire truck.
