Former Trooper Pleads Guilty In Murder Conspiracy

A former D.P.S. Trooper has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder. Darryl Keith Woods, who served as a trooper in Terrell, made the plea this afternoon before Judge Cynthia Kent. He now faces up to 20 years in prison.

Woods and three others were arrested last year in connection to the murder of Munsel Joe Van Zandt. Van Zandt was found shot to death in his car on North Tenneha Street in Tyler. Of the three other men also charged in the crime, one has already pleaded guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

Woods sentencing is scheduled for June 30th.
