Tyler Police release new details in infant bathtub drowning

A 9-month-old baby who was found unresponsive in a in a Tyler home has died.

Around 4:11 p.m., Wednesday, police and fire responded to a residence at 7415 Hollyoak Drive on report of a possible drowning.

9-month-old, Charlotte Rodriguez was unresponsive and was treated at the scene by Tyler Fire and EMS personnel. She was then transported to a Tyler hospital. Police say there were plans for the child to be flown to Children's Medical Center in Dallas, but the child was not stable enough to make the trip and could not breathe on her own. Police say the family chose to take the child off life support. She was pronounced dead at 10:31 p.m.

Tyler Police say the mother put the nine-month-old and her sibling in the bathtub, and turned on the overhead shower. She positioned the shower head so it'd hit the back wall of the shower, and water would run down into the tub.

Officials say the mother didn't put the plug in the tub, and walked into the bedroom momentarily to do something. When she returned, police say the plug was in the drain and the infant was lying in the tub unresponsive.

According to CPS, Charlotte has one other sibling. That sibling has been placed with a family member while the investigation in conducted.

CPS is investigating alongside law enforcement. The Rodriguez family does have a history with child protective services.
