Saturday morning the Jackson State football team was running through their final scrimmage of the fall.
Coach Rick Comegy was taking a good long look at his quarterback scenario with senior Dedric McDonald and junior Clayton Moore.
Moore ran with the second string offense, and he had early success.
He led his team to a field goal on his opening drive.
McDonald and the first string offense were a little sluggish out of the gates.
McDonald was able to hit senior wide receiver Rico Richardson for several big gains throughout the scrimmage.
He would connect with Richardson for the only passing touchdown of the day on the last play of the scrimmage.
Comegy says the quarterback race is close but McDonald will be the guy against Mississippi State on September 1.
"I really think that right now we have to give it to Dedric at this point and let him lead off with this thing at this point. I think he understands what we're trying to do and where we want the team to go. I think Clayton Moore is a real close second," Comegy stated.
