Lockland School Board takes step to terminate superintendent contract

LOCKLAND, OH (FOX19) -

The Lockland School Board decided Thursday to change the pay status of suspended superintendent Donna Hubbard.

Hubbard was placed on paid administrative leave three weeks ago after the Ohio Department of Education found that Lockland filed false attendance data to help improve its state testing results. The board decided to change her status to unpaid administrative leave with the intention of terminating her contract in September.

"The school board does not want the truth. They've been trying to ramrod things through and we want the public to know what's going on," said Hubbard's attorney, Conrad Kircher.

The State of Ohio is accusing Hubbard of falsifying student attendance records in order to improve report card ratings. Hubbard claims she was trained by Hamilton County on how to count kids.

"We had been trained by the county that this was the proper procedure. This is the only way you can do it," said Hubbard. "We weren't trying to cop out. These are the kids that came to school, these are the kids we taught and these are the kids we are saying we are accountable for."

The district is currently paying $525 a day for an interim superintendent, which is required.
