New Biosafety Lab In Tyler

East Texas is home to a brand new biosafety lab. UT Health Center at Tyler opened a Biosafety Level 2 and Level three lab today. The labs will be used to safely analyze bacteria such as anthrax and other dangerous infection diseases. The new lab means we will no longer have to send tests to Dallas or Austin and wait days for results.

"It will improve the public health throughout East Texas. It will allow us to be prepared in case, God forbid, a bio terror event occurred. It also allows us to handle every day epidemics that happen day in and day out in East Texas," says lab director Dr. David Lakey.

The labs will also perform tests for other infections disease like HIVand TB.
