Illegal racing in Tyler landed two people in the hospital and another in jail after a truck flipped over and pinned a man underneath.
The accident happened around 1:15a.m. on Sunday on the 1500 block of West Grande in Tyler.
Tyler Police say two vehicles were racing westbound on Grande when they lost control and one driver ended up getting pinned underneath his truck.
"On the road right there on the corner right there that's where he starting hitting the curb. He was coming real fast over here," says witness Elvis Awa, "I was sleeping and all I could hear was ‘help, help, help' and we started running out and then I called 911."
Police say a Volkswagen Jetta and a Dodge truck were racing westbound on Grande.
Luiz Barajas,23, was driving the Jetta and Daniel Dodd,28, was in the Dodge truck.
Police say when the vehicles reached the curve, neither driver was able to make the turn and both vehicles crashed in the curb in the eastbound lane.
"The first vehicle was a Volkswagen Jetta and it ended up staying up right and up in the grass. The second vehicle was a Dodge truck; it ended up flipping and the driver was ejected from the vehicle and the vehicle ended up rolling over and landing onto his legs," says Sgt. Paul Robeson, Tyler Police Department.
"It was gruesome. The car was damaged; the back wheel of the truck was laying somewhere in the middle. A couple of golf balls and gold clubs were scattered all over the road. It was not good," says Awa.
Tyler PD says Dodd was not wearing his seatbelt.
Barajas was arrested and charged with DWI, accident involving serious bodily injury and racing.
Charges for Dodd are currently pending, once police further their investigation and receive lab results.
Both Dodd and a passenger in the Jetta were taken to ETMC hospital in Tyler.
Dodd is good condition and is still at ETMC Hospital.
