UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An Upshur County substitute teacher has been indicted on sexual assault charges.

According to Upshur County D.A. Billy Byrd, 35-year-old Judy Lynn Langford of Big Sandy has been indicted for Sexual Assault of a child and Online Solicitation of a Minor.

Langford was a substitute teacher at Harmony ISD in Upshur County.

Harmony ISD superintendent Jed Whitaker said when he first heard of the accusations against Judy Lynn Langford, it "hit the district out of the blue."

"She was considered a very good sub. Several teachers requested her as a sub for their class," said Whitaker.

Whitaker said Langford had been a substitute for four or five years before the alleged incidents took place.

He tells us school officials were notified of the accusation on Thursday, December 1. He said Langford was removed from the substitute list that day, and the Upshur County Sheriff's Office was asked to investigate.

"We did a criminal trespass warning for her, so she could deliver her children to school and could not be on campus for any other reason or not be out of her vehicle during the investigation time," Whitaker said.

Right now, we do not know the number of or ages of the victims, but the Upshur County DA's office told us that the encounters happened during the last school year, both on and off campus.

Whitaker said that Harmony ISD administrators have since discussed how to better supervise teachers, staff, and students.

"We've reviewed all that and looked at how we can do that better, just more supervision, more people with their eyes open, thinking that something might not look kosher," said Whitaker. "Our students' safety and well-being is, like I said, of our utmost concern."

And he wants parents to know that it's unfortunate these incidents happened at all.

Langford was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and released 25 minutes later on $60,000 bond.

The Upshur County D.A.'s office now plans to meet with the victims.
